Tracking Variations

How variations are tracked on projects

When a new project is created there is an option to 'Track All Variations':

When this is ticked (which is the default) when you add an ASIN to a project Datarova will automatically track all of the variations related to that ASIN.

If the 'Track All Variations' option is not selected when the project is created then only the exact ASINs entered will be tracked.

Tracking All Variations

The default option is to track all variations. It should be used when all variation ASINs on a listing are relevant for mostly the same keywords.

When 'Track All Variations' is on for the project then it won't allow multiple variations from the same family to be added as it's already tracking all of the variations.

The rank tracker will look for any ASIN in the family when checking a keyword and will show the rank for whichever variation is returned in the search results for each keyword.

When an ASIN in the family other than the one that was added to the project is the one showing in the search results for the keywords, then an icon will be shown next to the keyword on the Ranks page.

You can put your mouse pointer over this icon to see which of the ASIN variations Amazon is showing in the search results for the keyword:

Not Tracking All Variations

If 'Track All Variations' isn't selected then only the exact ASINs added to the project will be tracked.

This can be used when each of the variation ASINs is relevant for different groups of keywords.

Example: if you were selling pet toys and your listing had a variation for a cat toy and another for a dog toy, then the variations would target different keywords and should be on separate projects.

The keyword ranks will only show if that exact variation is the one returned in the search results for each keyword.

If a rank isn't showing for an ASIN, it could be because another variation ASIN from the listing is showing in the search results for the keyword.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the 'Track All Variations' option be changed on a project?

The 'Track All Variations' setting can only be changed when the project does not have any ASINs.

If you want to change it for an existing project, you can either create a new project and copy and paste the ASINs and keywords into it, or you can copy the ASINs on the project, delete them, change the setting, and add the ASINs again.
