Rank Tracking FAQs

Frequently asked questions about the keyword rank tracker

How often are ranks checked?

Our proprietary algorithm intelligently determines the frequency of checking keyword ranks each day.

Every keyword is checked more than once every day.

Upon each check, the algorithm decides the next check based on several factors. These include the fluctuations in the ranks for your tracked ASIN and the keyword's sales volume.

Consequently, as your ASIN's keyword rank begins to fluctuate, our system automatically increases the check frequency to ensure accurate daily averages.

You don't need to 'boost' a keyword to know that the ranks are accurate.

During a ranking campaign, or when your rank starts to dip, rest assured that our system will detect these changes. It will then enhance the checking frequency as often as every hour.

You can see the ranks at an hourly level by either clicking on the keyword to see the Rank Overview then selecting the Hourly option:

Or by exporting the hourly version of the CSV:

Which zip code are ranks checked from?

Amazon can show different search results for the same keyword. One factor that Amazon takes into account is the shopper's zipcode.

When Datarova checks the search results for a keyword, it uses zipcodes that are spread out across the country.

As each keyword is checked multiple times per day then any deviation in ranks because of the zipcode are smoothed out to give a more accurate rank.

What's the difference between Not Ranked and Not Tracked?

At the bottom of the Ranks page, it shows a legend for the different colours that can be displayed for each keyword and date:

An example of some of the colours that may be shown on the Ranks page are:

Not Tracked

The grey colour means the keyword was not tracked on that particular date.

For example, if you added keywords on December 2nd, the grey boxes will appear for days before that date, as those keywords weren't tracked then.

Not Ranked

If it shows a white cell with a dash, then the ASIN did not appear in the Top 140 search results for that keyword on that day.

Can I see historical ranks for keywords?

Datarova starts tracking the ranks for a keyword from the day you add it to a project.

If you later add the same keyword to another project, it will also show the ranks from the first day you added it to your account.

The ranks are not shown for dates before you start tracking a keyword.
