How is Visibility calculated?

Find out how we calculate the visibility metric

In Projects you will see a Visibility metric shown in a few places.

One place it's shown is on the widgets on Ranks :

What does Visibility mean and how is it calculated?

In simple terms, Visibility shows the percentage of all shoppers that will see the listing for the keywords on the project.

Visibility shows the overall 'health' of the organic rankings for an ASIN.

The metric is calculated using the organic rank and the sales of the keywords.

The greater the sales a keyword has, the greater the influence it'll have on Visibility.

Examples:

If two keywords are being tracked and an ASIN is ranked 1 for both keywords then the Visibility will be 100%.

If the rank for one of the keywords changes then the impact this has on Visibility will depend on the sales volume of the keyword.

In the last four weeks if 'keyword A' has 5,000 sales and 'keyword B' has 10 sales then if the rank for 'keyword A' changes from 1 to 100 then Visibility will be close to zero.

If the rank for 'keyword B' changes from 1 to 100 then it will have a very small impact on Visibility.

Formula

Visibility is calculated each day for every ASIN on a project.

The formula uses the organic rank, and the sales, for each keyword on the project.

Example

There are three keywords on a project: 'garlic press', 'garlic mincer' and 'garlic smasher'.

Garlic press has 10,000 sales, garlic mincer has 1,000 sales and garlic smasher has 100 sales.

An ASIN has the rankings below for 3 different days:

Jan 1st

Jan 2nd

Jan 3rd

garlic press

1

4

3

garlic mincer

4

1

10

garlic smasher

2

7

20

The Visibility for each of the days is:

Date

Visibility

Jan 1st

Jan 2nd

Jan 3rd

Each rank is given a 'weight' depending on its rank and this is multiplied by the sales.

The weights are:

2

3

For Jan 2nd the calculation is:

The total contribution for the day is divided by the total possible sales to give the Visibility:

6,020 / 11,100 = 54%
